We conducted Top Bar Hive construction at SAKALA in Cité Soleil with 20 students the past week. We have two bee colonies in the Top-top Garden with more to come. A good learning experience for youth. Cité Soleil is the poorest city in the Western Hemisphere. SAKALA is empowering the next generation with hope.

The St Croix Bee Congress was a hit with over 80 people from 26 nations. It was fun making new friends and seeing old ones.
I presented one paper on my Haitian Project with Mr. Sonor. I was well recieved from what I gather. Even Caribbean people have no idea of the conditions in Haiti. Its a lost land or just one that everyone wants to forget.
I was going to do a country report on Haiti, but decided not to. I have not been there in 2 years and didnt feel right talking about it.

New Top Bar Hive
The boys (14 & 17 years old) have added a few new TBH's to the apiary. A traditional log hive is set up right behind it. Their determination to learn beekeeping is impressive. They have no fear of bees like many Haitians.

Haitian Country Kitchen
This is the typical kitchen you will find in everyones back yard. A small hut with a fire pit. This keeps the smoke outside and lowers the chances of the house burning down. I have had some great meals from this kitchen. yum yum

Sculpture or Bee hive
With proper material hard to fine, most rural beekeepers improvise. The bees don't mind, a home is still a home. I love how they turn into found object sculptures. I'm always waiting for them to start walking away.
