Horizontal Haitian Hive

Haitian beekeepers still use tradition log hives. This beekeeper was using Horizontal boxes, much like the Tanzanian Top Bar Hives. These boxes, at least can be opened for harvesting honey. They contain no frames. This beekeeper had 6 new Langstroth hives in his apiary. He could not figure out why I was not interested in his new equipment that he was so proud of. I find the traditional equipment so much more creative and earthy. Bees love old logs as they have for thousands of years.  A warp in time to walk into these apiaries. I feel like a kid in a candy shop.
